Affair Recovery

One of the most devastating things that can happen in a marriage is infidelity. According to research, 30-60% of marriages deal with an affair, many of which ends in divorce. What happens though when you are a part of the statistic, but you don’t want a divorce?

Many, though deeply hurt from the affair, still desire to salvage the marriage. The first step involves looking at any marital problems that existed before the affair happened. Affairs don’t happen in a vacuum and understanding the events and emotions that led up to the affair can help bring healing and potential restoration to a broken marriage.

It is also important to realize that most people don’t think they will have an affair, until they do. Having knowledge of how affairs develop helps people prepare themselves, especially if they don’t think temptation is a possibility. It is easier than we realize to get sucked into a potentially destructive situation.

Finally, surviving an affair includes much rebuilding of trust and a patience on both sides as spouses ride the emotional roller coaster of post-affair recovery. On our own, this process seems daunting and impossible; however, we know that with God all things are possible. Since God is in the business of restoring that which was broken, there is hope for every couple that wants to rebuild what was torn down. Fortunately, with God on our side, what is built can be even stronger and more sturdy than that which was lost.
